Working anywhere from America to Europe, Cuba, Mexico, India and Japan, the duo blend their fervent passion for photography and film with their lasting love for one another.
BJ Formento was born in the U.S. and grew up in the Philippines. London-born Richeille Formento attended the prestigious Central St. Martins College of Art before working as an art director in the fashion industry.
Formento & Formento entered the Fine Art scene in 2009 with their first series, titled Circumstance: American Beauty Down on Bruised Knees. During a road trip from New York to Los Angeles, the Formentos travelled through twenty-five American states, photographing women they met along the way, who were often recruited on the same day as the shoot. Referencing classic American paintings and cinema, the series embodies the combined American visions of both BJ and Richeille – capturing a country in uncertain times, as its dramatically lit subjects are transformed into heroines and femme fatales caught in intense moments of emotion and reflection.

Formento & Formento have convoked a passionate following across the globe within a short space of time. Their work has been presented in exhibitions at the Fahey Klein Gallery in Los Angeles, Taylor Graham in NYC and Robert Klein in Boston, has been featured in auctions at Bonhams NYC, and has also been integrated into permanent collections at the International Center for Photography NYC, the Currier Museum and the Lewben Museum. More recently, Formento & Formento have made their first forays into film making, with their short film The Voyage receiving great accolades at the Cannes Film Festival 2016. Created to raise money for the International Rescue Committee, the film had previously drawn thousands of visitors at the Art Basel Miami Beach 2015.
In September 2013, the Formentos celebrated the release of their first art tome, titled Circumstance (published by YK Editions), which was accompanied by the screening of a short documentary about their work at the Pompidou Museum in Paris. Their second book, Cinematic Chronicles, was published in 2015.  Their growing presence on the international art fair circuit includes events such as Paris Photo, AIPAD, The Armory Show, Photo Shanghai, Art Silicon, Art Miami, Art Wynwood, Art New York, and Photo London. 2018 will see the release of a coffee table book published by Glitterati Incorporated, showcasing ten years of the Formentos’ extraordinary photography.
