Young people today are not afraid to show their bodies online, whether it’s risqué self-portraits on Instagram, or nudes sent by text message and over dating apps. Nudes are being produced like never before, but they’re also heavily censored on social media; which has led to protests like the #freethenipple movement. A new exhibition in Berlin, ‘Corpus Delicti’ curated by Nadine Dinter, now joins in the discourse surrounding contemporary nakedness and where, if anywhere, to draw the line, by showcasing the work of three young photographers: Sonia Szóstak from Poland makes portraits of women in various states of undress; Steven Kohlstock from Germany pictures half-naked men; while Simon Lohmeyer, again from Germany, who used to work as a model and knows how it feels to be objectified, photographs men and women and couples and also himself. And if you’re wondering what ‘Corpus Delicti’ means … it’s ‘the body of the crime’.
