Sarah Moon in Milan

@ Sarah Moon, Gauthier 1998

This autumn, to coincide with fashion week, two of Milan’s leading exhibition spaces will celebrate the career of Sarah Moon. She was born at the beginning of the 1940s, became a model in the 1960s, began shooting fashion stories and advertising campaigns towards the end of that decade, and went on to make documentary films and book projects as well. Moon is known for the hazy, wafting, dreamlike quality of her pictures, more than 250 of which will soon be on show at Armani/Silos and Galleria Carla Sozzani, giving a sweeping overview of her career. ‘This,’ Moon says of the latter venue’s display, ‘is the story of time passing; how time erases. Here and now, this story I tell is not totally mine, but the story of these photographs before they disappear. It is time at work.’
