This September, for Milan Fashion Week 2016, photographer Rankin will be bringing an exhibition to the city’s famous Via Montenapoleone. In an open air, public exhibition titled Outside In, he will be presenting a new and exclusive collection of work. Playing on the idea of taking the inside out, Rankin has deployed his signature playful sense of humour in developing the concept.
The exhibition is promoted by the MonteNapoleone Association, which currently represents one hundred and forty Global Luxury Brands, among the world’s most important companies, and as the President of the MonteNapoleone Association, Guglielmo Miani, says: “It ‘s really an honor to host the famous photographer Rankin with a work created expressly for us. So we celebrate fashion and continue to promote cultural initiatives which have the advantage of bringing the art of photography in the heart of the city”.
One of the world’s leading international fashion streets,Via Montenapoleone is a jewel in the city’s crown and a focal point for FashionWeek.A series of portraits of models inside white boxes will line the street. The effect will be that of an illusion, a trompe l’oeil. With each model photographed from a different perspective, our senses will be played with as our understanding of photography is distorted. Each box will convey a different personality.
Going beneath the surface and displaying internal feelings on the outside, Outside In will be a journey through a spectrum
of human emotions, as you venture down the street.Tongue- in- cheek, it is all about “making an exhibition of yourself ”. .
Having shot everyone from David Bowie to Madonna to The Queen, the Dazed & Confused co-founder is excited about bringing this new concept to Milan:“No ticket prices, no queues, no being cut off from the world. It’s there, for everyone to access,24-hours a day. From shoppers and tourists during the day to party people at night to the stragglers and last ones standing at dawn, it is going to purely subjective. Worlds within worlds within worlds”.
