Ralph Gibson: Nude

‘A photographer once said,’ Ralph Gibson has recalled, ‘that beauty in women is endless. Perhaps it was I who said it. I love photographing women and could say that the form of the female body is absolute and perfect.’ A great American photographer, Gibson first started taking pictures while serving in the Navy in the 1950s, went on to assist the legendary Dorothea Lange and Robert Frank, and then finally struck out on his own in New York City. He has made a career from artistic black-and-white studies of still lives, cityscapes and female bodies; now the best of the latter have been published in this sensual monograph titled, simply, ‘Nude’.
