To watch Peter Lindbergh in an atelier in Paris - in the end of the Nineties, beautiful, fragile, tiny french elf Laetitia Casta was the Face of The fashion brand Kathleen Madden - is to grasp instantly, while Lindbergh restlessly changes cameras, thanks to his restless assistants, tha the photographer is capable of beautifying women even if they are beautiful already. Lindbergh has coined the term „Supermodel“ like no other, Christy Turlingon, Tatjana Patitz, Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell, on the wooden porch of a summer house in the Hamptons is one of the shots that have made it into the collective memory. In the current flood of published and broadcast photographs, Lindbergh has stood out for two decades.

That he doesn´t like to capture laughter on film he explains at a quick lunch in a french Bistro - eating with the same verve and passion as he takes his pictures perhaps. Back in the studio one gets an understanding how he intuitively he composes his settings and how he gains the models´trust. Well, not all of them: Christy Turlington was different: „Christy was rather quiet and just brought her exceptional beauty with her, just standing there and waiting for my instructions. When I tried to explain certain more extreme poses, she looked at me inquiringly and returned to simply being a beauty - this she did really well!“

„Women on Street“, a double exhibition with of photographer Gary Winogrand, is to bee seen at NRW-Forum up until the end of April - Winograds series „Women are beautiful“, first published in 1975, accompany Lindberghs work of fashion photographies taken on the streets of NYC. Winongrad, who died in 1984, was one of the foremost Street photographers of his time, having been an important influence in establishing photography into the canon of modern art.

85 pictures in black-and-white, to bee seen for the first time in Germany, are complimented by rare works in color, taken in the years between 1958 and 1964.
