These days, British photographer Peter Ashworth does most of his work with avant-garde London fashion designers like Stephen Jones, Basso & Brooke and Atsuko Kudo, but back in the 1980s, when he was a young man, he was right at the heart of an incredible music scene. So many of the acts that came to define that decade, and rewrite pop music history in the process, had their portraits taken by him: the Eurythmics, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode, the Smiths, Adam and the Ants, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Tina Turner; the list goes on and on. Ashworth’s music photography is vivid, in your face, and garishly colourful, and both he and his iconic subjects are, as the title suggests, ‘Mavericks’.
