‘This Side of Paradise: Narrative, Cinema and Suburbia’ brings together a total of 20 works by American artist Todd Hido and British fashion photographer Miles Aldridge in order to create a dramatic spectacle that’s as unnerving as it is alluring. Hido’s ‘Houses at Night’ series provides us with the setting: moody American suburbia, where the only signs of life are the glowing windows of the houses and the cars parked outside. Aldridge provides us with the characters: glamorous women performing lives of quiet desperation indoors. Displayed side by side, their photographs combine into a tense vision of domestic life; as for the narrative, that’s left up to us to imagine.
