Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Lara Stone, Vogue Paris (London, 2010)

One night in 1994, at a party by the seaside in Hastings, England, Marcus Piggott, from Wales, asked Mert Alas, from Turkey, for a lighter. They soon became friends and decided to start taking photographs together – and fashion photography has never been the same since. Mert and Marcus are known for their pioneering use of digital augmentation, their focus on making sure women look beautiful and powerful, and, above all, for the glamour in which their images and their lives are soaked: when they hosted a party on the rooftop of New York’s Public Hotel to launch their new book, the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Nicki Minaj and Cindy Crawford were all in attendance. As for the book itself: it’s a stunning, luscious, large-format compilation of more than 300 images that have helped to define the last two decades of fashion and celebrity.
