Martin Parr: World (The Price of Love)

‘This trend for the real, the authentic, is of course right up my street,’ says British artist Martin Parr. ‘Suddenly, the fashion people are more aligned with me, rather than the other way around.’ He’s been well known for his colourful, endearing and often amusing photographs of ordinary people and places for more than three decades now, but recently Parr has been shooting a lot of fashion as well: like Gucci’s Cruise 2019 lookbook, which he shot on location in Cannes. While doing so, he also took a lot of snaps of the sunny Riviera and its holidaymakers, and these have now been published as a standalone art book, one that takes its name from a 1993 New Order song: ‘World (The Price of Love)’. Inside you’ll find Gucci, and La Croisette, and New Order lyrics and video stills and more, all mixed together in a joyful, summery blend of fashion, art and pop music.
