Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2018

As of today, photographers from around the world are invited to enter their photo series for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2019. Submissions close on 1 April 2019. Applications must be in the form of a self-contained series, conveying man’s relationship with his environment from a contemporary and insightful perspective.

The main category winner stands to receive a cash prize of 25,000 euros, along with a Leica M camera and lens worth approximately 10,000 euros. The winner of the ‘Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer’ category will be presented with 10,000 euros as well as photography equipment from the Leica M System. In addition, ten finalists will each be awarded a cash prize of 2,500 euros. All winning and shortlisted works will be showcased in Berlin in autumn 2019, and published in a special edition of LFI. For those who would like to experience the contest’s previous selection, the exhibition ‘Leica Oskar Barnack Award – Winners and Finalists 2018’ is currently on display at the Leica Gallery Wetzlar, continuing until 5 May 2019. Belgian photographer Max Pinckers won the 2018 edition with his series ‘Red Ink’, which investigates the extent to which photography can provide a truly accurate rendition of reality. The Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award went to Russian photographer Mary Gelman for her sensitive series ‘Svetlana’.
