Living in London since 1986, he started to photograph vor music-, Zeitgeist- and fashion-magazines, having his breakthrough with his series of Nirvana and a portrayal of Kurt Cobain in especial. Teller´s work hover permanently on the edge of art and commercial photography, his main expression being portraits: With a special feeling for persons, situations, cliché and milieu, he creates direct and seemingly simple compositions in the fields of music, fashion, VIP, everyday life and landscapes.
In this exhibition works like Siegerflieger and My Man Crush, Pep Guardiola turn the foyer into „public viewing, where views of winning and failure prove his sense for documentation of the decisive moment in time. Other groups of work are autobiographical and sometimes anecdotal: Quiet Landscapes from Nuremberg, honest, direct setting-in-scenes of himself like The Clinic as well as subjective documentations of his coming-of-age and his home like Irene im Wald.
In his most recent series „Mit dem Teller nach Bonn” and „Plates/Teller” all these themes and and compositions seem to flow together to a concentrate: The interplay of the protagonists and Teller - synonymous with the photographer and substitute at the same time - are of a tender, overflowing, honest, humorous and touching composition - many of his dense story-tellings unfold only in a second glance.
