In Düsseldorf 250 works of the „King of fashion photography“ will be on display

He was one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, on a par with Richard Avedon and Irving Penn. He was a star of the rich and beautiful, who vied
to be portrayed by him. He was the „King of fashion photography“, a „Magician of light“. Even Salvador Dalí created sets for him: Horst P. Horst (1906– 1999).

This retrospective of the legendary photographer has been curated by the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Horst: Photographer of Style shows 250 prints out of a 60 year career, his famous pictures for Vogue, star portraits of Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth, as well as surreal sets, nature shots and travel photography. The exhibition also consists of sketchbooks, private letters and hitherto unpublished material.

Horst P. Horst single-handedly defined modern fashion photography of the 20th century. The master without compromise left over 22000 works - his shootings betimes lasting for days, until he was fully content. Curator Susanna Brown of the V&A: „We could have filled five exhibitions easily!“
