‘In my photographs,’ explains German photographer Donata Wenders, ‘I am only interested in what can be seen between the lines – what pulls you back again and again, pushing us forward, towards a new clarity.’ Her pictures are often blurred, faded, worn out or weathered. The onus is placed on the observer to really see what’s going on in them. ‘Gelesene Zeit’, meaning ‘Time to Read’, is an exhibition of delicate photogravure portraits of actress Arijana Antunovic. Wenders’s exposures are long, allowing light to fill the compositions and Antunovic to almost disappear; these are images of passing time that reward long periods of contemplation.
