The great American publisher and business magnate Condé Montrose Nast changed the world of fashion, and even more so the world of fashion photography, forever. He hired the company’s first photographer, the German portraitist Baron Adolphe de Meyer, in 1914, later followed by greats like Cecil Beaton, Erwin Blumenfeld, Horst P. Horst, Man Ray and Edward Steichen; together, on the pages of his flagship publications ‘Vogue’ and ‘Vanity Fair’, they invented the art of fashion photography. Over the subsequent hundred-plus years many of the world’s leading photographers made their names with the publishing house, and now ‘Coming into Fashion’ tells the story of Condé Nast through this extraordinarily chic collection of rare pictures and magazines from the archives in New York, London, Paris and Milan.
