Chris Moore in Teesdale

09/05/2018

Chris Moore, the reigning king of catwalk photography, has been working since 1954 when, aged just 20, he began assisting the likes of Cecil Beaton and Henry Clarke at London’s Vogue Studio; he’s still working today. Moore comes from Newcastle-upon-Tyne and now 200 of his most iconic photos of the last half-century of catwalk shows have come home for a retrospective in the North East, in the lavish setting of the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, Teesdale, where they’ll be exhibited alongside original garments from these fabulous shows. In the words of fashion critic Alexander Fury, who co-curated the exhibition with Bowes’s Joanna Hashagen, ‘The excitement is in combining the ephemeral with the eternal – translating the fleeting “fashion moment”, experienced by so few at the international collections, cementing it through the reality of the clothes, and translating into an exhibition all can enjoy.’
