Cathleen Naundorf in Stockholm

‘In 1985,’ Cathleen Naundorf once recalled, ‘we left East Germany carrying only what we could in our two hands, yet it was worth losing our wealth to gain our freedom; I came to learn and understand you can lose everything tomorrow but nobody can take what you have in your mind.’ Born in 1968 and brought up during the Cold War, the German-Frenchwoman dreamt of making ‘self-created movies or fantasy pictures’ ever since she was a little child. Now, having travelled the world, before settling in Paris in the 1990s to work as a fashion and art photographer and collaborate with some of the world’s most illustrious brands (Chanel, Dior, Gaultier, Valentino; the list goes on), Naundorf has turned that dream into a reality: ‘Secret Times’ is an exhibition of the meticulously staged, highly imaginative fashion fantasy pictures to which she has dedicated her life.
