As It Was: Frank Habicht’s Sixties

Over the decades, German photographer Frank Habicht has contributed to leading publications like Die Welt and the Guardian, and shot legends like Mick Jagger, Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. When he was in his 20s, however, having just graduated from Hamburg’s Schule für Fotografie, he was living in London and documenting a city undergoing a social revolution: the Swinging Sixties. After years of conservatism and austerity, young people in London were throwing off the shadows of the past and embracing a new spirit of flower power, and peace and love, and sex and drugs and rock’n’roll; and Habicht was there on the streets of Soho and Chelsea documenting it all. If you’d like to revisit a more idealistic and libertine time than the present, why not go find yourself a copy of ‘As It Was’?
