Following his solo exhibition at Camera Work in Berlin this autumn, Austrian portrait photographer Andreas H. Bitesnich’s new book ‘Momentum’ has been published in a very limited edition of just 500 copies. Mixing dramatic cityscapes and close-up studies of the 21st century environment with a wide variety of male and female nudes, some of them covered in extraordinary tattoos, ‘Momentum’ is a neo-gothic portrait of the contemporary world and the fascinating citizens that inhabit it. What brings all these pictures together is that they’re dark and moody, they’re cloaked in shadows, they’re touched by the faint glow of fluorescents and LEDs; this is what happens when we dim the lights and let the night take us forwards.
